Tech Data eyes up wearables market with Fitbit partnership

Tech Data has strengthened its position in the fitness wearables market by tying up a partnership with Fitbit. With access to Fitbit’s full range of activity trackers, the UK distie is looking to extend its presence in the growing weareables market. In fact, Tech Data has set its sights on new areas of growth, by taking Fitbit’s products into corporate and healthcare sectors.

Paul Jacobs, Business Unit Director for CE and Accessories said: “Fitbit motivates people to reach their health and fitness goals by tracking their activity. Millions of consumers all over the world do that already using Fitbit products and businesses are also using wearables to support and encourage employees in leading healthy lifestyles, so there is a tremendous amount of potential.”

“The reach of wearables is being extended and the opportunities could be massive”, Jacobs added. “We will be working closely with Fitbit in partnership with ISVs and API integration specialists in this area to target reseller partners with ideas or specific opportunities they want to develop – we’d love to hear from them.”

Singing from the same hymn sheet, Olivier Claude, senior sales director EMEA at Fitbit, said that the partnership with Tech Data will allow them to ‘target new channels’. “This agreement with Tech Data will enable us to address the massive potential we see for our products in the corporate wellness, healthcare and wider commercial sector,” he said. “Tech Data has an excellent reputation for building and enabling new channels and the market knowledge and capabilities to help us develop our sales in new areas of the market.”
