Vendor says brand will be key to success in 'disproportionately large' value segment

HP: ‘Compaq is crucial to UK market’

HP has said that the re-introduction of the Compaq brand is part of a plan to address the price focused UK market.

Speaking to PCR, consumer business development manager Ben Perrin said that the UK is unique within Europe and North America in the size of the value PC market as a proportion of the whole channel.

"In the UK, the low-cost segment is a disproportionately large part of the market," he said. "But there are opportunities to supply the very best technology, both in power and quality at that price point, and that is what we are planning to do with the Compaq brand."

He added that it isn’t possible for HP to use its namesake to address both the high and low-ends without compromising its brand message.
