PC industry heavyweights including Lenovo’s CEO and the Nvidia Foundation are backing campaigns to help fight cancer.
Lenovo announced that chairman and CEO Yang Yuanqing will join the CEO Roundtable on Cancer, an international non-profit organisation focused on advancing research and encouraging health initiatives in China.
The CEO Roundtable on Cancer is known for its CEO Cancer Gold Standard, a workplace wellness program with three major goals: risk reduction, early detection and quality care. It has been adopted by nearly 200 of the world’s leading companies and has the backing of George Bush senior.
“I am honored to join this prestigious organisation and support important cause as a founding member in China,” said Yuanqing Yang. “As a global company, it is our goal to provide our employees around the world with the best quality experience at work. I believe that creating a healthier workplace can directly benefit our people, their families and our company. Lenovo is proud to join this effort and the fight against cancer.”
The Nvidia Foundation, meanwhile, gave a $200,000 grant back in late 2013 to research focused on the anti-cancer drug discovery pipeline usingmolecular dynamics simulations powered by GPUs.
A blog post over on the Nvidia website shows some more information on the research by Rommie Amaro, associate professor at the University of California, which is aiming to interrupt the mutation process by using high-performance computers.
“Enormous gains in computing power are enabling a new framework for drug discovery,” Amaro said in a presentation she gave at Nvidia’s GPU Technology Conference a few days ago.
