Three new hybrid devices revealed

Lenovo announces new Windows 8 tablets

Lenovo becomes the latest company to announce details about its upcoming Windows 8 devices: Lynx, Twist and Yoga.

“We think these innovative convertibles are the best devices for a groundbreaking touchscreen experience, plus their multi-modes give people even more ways to use their PC,” said Peter Hortensius, senior vice president at Lenovo.

The PC manufacturer has unveiled a range of hybrid tablets, including the IdeaPad Yoga, which comes in two variants.

The IdeaPad Yoga 11 has an 11.6-inch LCD display and the IdeaPad Yoga 13’s screen comes in at 13.3-inches. Both use a hinge mechanism that enables the user to fold the keyboard behind the touch display for use as a tablet.

The Yoga 11 uses an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core ARM processor with Windows RT and the Yoga 13 has an Intel i3 processor and runs Windows 8.

Another device unveiled was the IdeaTab Lynx. This is a Windows 8 tablet with an 11.6-inch screen. It will come either on its own, or with an attachable keyboard dock, which will cost you extra.

This tablet is one of the first Windows 8 devices to be powered by an Intel dual core chip, and has an impressive 16 hours battery life.

The third and final device is the ThinkPad Twist, an Intel based device with a Core i7 processor.

It comes with optional 3G connectivity and either a 500GB storage drive or 128GB solid-state storage.

The ultrabook/tablet has a 12.5-inch screen which has a similar form to the Yoga as the screen can be rotated and twisted around. Users can hide the keyboard, turning the device from ultrabook to tablet.

So far Lenovo has only revealed the US pricing and release details. The IdeaPad Yoga 13 will cost $1,099 and be available from October 26th (the day Windows 8 becomes available), the Yoga 11 with cost $799 and is scheduled for December.
