Zyxel Networks converges cloud and on-premises security

Zyxel Networks has unveiled upgraded USG FLEX H series firewalls, which provide small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and managed service providers (MSPs) with an easier and more consistent way to manage security. They also offer essential, built-in protection and 3x unified threat management (UTM) performance.

The USG FLEX H series uses the new Smart Sync feature to unify cloud and on-premises security. It automatically synchronises security policies, network objects and high availability settings between Zyxel Networks’ Nebula cloud platform and the local web management interface, ensuring consistency, eliminating manual duplication, and streamlining management for a scalable, future-proof network.

The firewalls now come equipped with Zyxel Networks’ new Entry Defense Pack (EDP) license, providing businesses with essential security features straight from setup. The EDP includes features such as Reputation Filter, SecuReporter analytics and Priority Support, ensuring SMBs have comprehensive, up-to-date defence against the latest security threats from day one.

Powered by next-generation hardware, the USG FLEX H series delivers three times the firewall, VPN and UTM performance compared to predecessor models. With multi-gigabit speeds ranging from 1G to 10G, the series offers ample capacity to handle growing network demands. Its AI-driven, multi-layered protection includes IKEv2/EAP and SSL VPN, sandboxing, anti-malware, DNS/IP/URL filtering, IPS and application patrol, providing deep defence against emerging threats.

To enhance identity and access security, Nebula cloud integration enforces two-factor authentication (2FA) on organization-level admin access, as well as Microsoft Entra ID sign-in to authenticate users logging into the Nebula wireless access point captive portal. This extra layer of protection ensures only authorized individuals can access critical resources.

“The upgraded USG FLEX H series reflects Zyxel Networks’ commitment to providing SMBs and MSPs with a network security solution that simplifies management while addressing the growing need for stronger, more intelligent protection,” said Ken Tsai, president of Zyxel Networks. “Through our continuous engagement with customers, we’ve built a solution that reduces complexity and boosts security, helping SMBs navigate the challenges of modern network environments with ease.”

The new cloud and on-premises convergence features are available from April 2025 on USG FLEX H series firewalls running Nebula version 19.00 and firewall firmware version uOS v1.32.
