Azlan unveils new MD; Tech Data announces Nuance distribution deal

Tech Data’s value enterprise division, Azlan, has announced Rob Tomlin as its new managing director for UK and Ireland.

Tomlin, who joined Tech Data when the company acquired SDG in September 2012, will take full responsibility for leading the next stage of Azlan’s development as a leading value distributor focused on serving the needs of enterprise VARs, systems integrators and managed services providers.

Previously, Andy Gass, managing director UK and Ireland for Tech Data, was also acting as head of Azlan.

Before taking up his new role, Tomlin was a business unit director for Azlan with responsibility for various business and sales teams and the systems integrator and MSP business units.

As well as further developing key partnerships with Cisco, Citrix, Dell, EMC, HP Enterprise, IBM, Lenovo, Symantec, Veritas and VMware, Tomlin will be working closely with vendors and partners to accelerate Azlan’s presence in software-defined infrastructure solutions and enterprise security. He will also lead Azlan’s continued development and investment in cloud aggregation and managed services.

“I’m excited by the prospect of building on Azlan’s success and strengthening its position as a value partner to the channel in the enterprise market. Significant advances are being made in software-defined networking and storage, in information security and data protection, and in the delivery of cloud-based services,” said Tomlin.

“Azlan will provide resellers the solutions, services and skills to deliver much more dynamic, responsive and scalable infrastructures that these technologies enable, thus allowing them to provide more efficient, responsive and effective ways of working for enterprise customers.”

Gass commented: “Rob’s experience in enterprise technology will be invaluable in his new role and gives him the depth and capabilities needed to drive Azlan’s further development as a one-stop enterprise solutions and cloud enablement partner, providing the channel with a solid platform for success.”

Tech Data has also announced that it has been appointment as the UK distributor for Nuance Communications and is making the company’s document scanning and conversion solution, Power PDF, available to the wider reseller community through its TD Activate Here electronic download platform.

Nick Stancliffe, software business manager at Tech Data, commented: “More organisations and individuals are now looking for ways to streamline document workflows and ways to store documents permanently and securely. Nuance leads the way in document scanning, OCR and conversion software and we see good growth potential for the Power PDF range.

“By making it available via TD Activate Here we are making it very easy for retailers and resellers to add these solutions to their portfolio and pick up on additional potential when they are selling scanners and NAS devices in particular.”
