Multimedia processor set to ship with firm's new laptops soon

Toshiba set to integrate SpursEngine this year

Toshiba has revealed that it will be fitting its SpursEngine multimedia processor into its upcoming range of laptop computers with it promising improved graphics, video playback as well as benefits to various other applications.

As PC Retail reported back in November, Toshiba is hoping that the SpursEngine will give it a competitive advantage in the the multimedia and creative fields. It revealed that it sees the processor as an important element in its laptop strategy as it seeks to decrease the gulf between fifth and fourth in the laptop market.

It expects the device to be used to help take the pressure of the processor and GPU when someone wants to use high definition content thanks to its built-in codec for HD encoding and decoding of MPEG2 and H.264 streams.

According to Toshiba, firms that have already signed up to take advantage of the SpursEngine include Corel and Cyberlink.
