Last roll of the dice as vendor fights back with player price cut

Toshiba lowers prices for HD DVD players

The format war continues with the news that Toshiba has slashed the prices of its HD DVD players.

Journalists at DailyTech noticed that Amazon.com has cut Toshiba’s third generation 1080i-capable HD-A3 to $139.98, with the 1080p version at $179.98. Whereas similar price cuts have occurred at Sam’s Club, Costco and Tiger Direct.

In addition to the new prices, customers in America who purchase Toshiba’s HD DVD players are eligible to received five free movies via a mail-in rebate.

It may look bleak, but it appears that Toshiba are not giving up without a fight.
