Indies meet the big boys

The BT Centre was the venue for the latest Briagantia Roadshow, this time focussing on convergence, networking and the digital home.

The bulk of the day was taken up by presentations from a wide variety of speakers, including Microsoft, who talked us though its M-Home experiment in which it kitted out a house with all the latest digital home equipment and invited guests from a wide cross section of industries and interests to view it.

Other speakers included Intel, who described its current transition from processor company to platform company, AMD who described their latest processors and their plans for the next few years including their reseller program, and Bullguard who described its revenue share scheme in which retailers receive 25 per cent of the revenue for the life of a product they sell.

BT itself announced its 21st Century Network project, in which it will transform its entire network to IP and, in conjunction with distributor DMSL announced the connection bounty available for retailers who distribute its broadband disks.

In keeping with the theme, Belkin talked about the latest standards in wireless networking, ZyXEL described the potential for DSL and VoIP for small businesses and home workers and, in an amusing tangent, Jet Tec took us on a virtual tour of their factory accompanied by a James Bond soundtrack.
