Panasonic unveils Toughbook 34

Panasonic has introduced the Toughbook 34, described as the most significant generational step forward in the brand’s 30‑year history. The new 12.4‑inch rugged 2‑in‑1 delivers a larger screen without increasing its footprint, giving field teams more room to manage complex, AI‑driven workflows at the edge.

Despite the bigger display, the 34 is 13 per cent lighter than its predecessor and remains the lightest rugged tablet in its class. Its Full HD+ panel includes AdaptiveTouch for seamless switching between finger, pen and glove use, and offers up to 1,000 cd/m² brightness for outdoor clarity. An optional keyboard adds extra ports, including USB‑A, HDMI, serial, LAN, and SD, along with Panasonic’s retractable ergo grip handle.

Panasonic has also overhauled the device’s power system. A new battery structure delivers a 20 per cent increase in longevity from a single 40Wh pack, with up to 18 hours of runtime based on MobileMark 30. Two hot‑swappable batteries can be used simultaneously to minimise downtime in the field.

Built on Panasonic’s rugged DNA, the 34 combines Intel Core Ultra performance with integrated Intel Arc graphics, enterprise‑grade security, Wi‑Fi 7, and optional 4G and 5G. As a Copilot+ PC, it supports AI‑ready workflows, while Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Device Edge certification enables secure edge deployments. The device meets IP66 standards, is tested to MIL‑STD 810H, and operates between -29°C and 63°C.

Panasonic says the majority of accessories from earlier models remain compatible, helping organisations upgrade without replacing existing infrastructure. This is particularly relevant for fire services using Toughbook devices as Mobile Data Terminals on long deployment cycles.

“The Toughbook 34 reflects how field work is evolving,” said Dirk Weigelt, Senior Product and Solutions Manager at Panasonic Toughbook. “Users are working with increasingly complex applications, larger datasets and AI‑enabled workflows at the edge. We’ve designed the 34 to give them more screen space, more performance and more flexibility, whilst maintaining the rugged reliability and infrastructure continuity that organisations expect from Panasonic.”
