Vodafone has appointed a new head of its Internet of Things division as it plans to up its IoT services. Stefano Gastaut will head up the division from January 1, moving over from his position as CEO at Vodafone Egypt.
Before taking over at Vodafone Egypt, Gastaut was CEO of Vodafone’s partner market business, responsible for forming strategic alliances with local mobile operators around the world. During his tenure in Egypt, Gastaut improved Vodafone’s market share from 40 to 45 per cent and launched a 4G service.
Gastaut is looking forward to the challenges of his new role. “I am looking forward to joining this successful and dynamic team and building on the foundations created by Erik Brenneis,” he said. “Undoubtedly, IoT will play a significant role in transforming many businesses globally and I am confident that Vodafone will be the first choice partner to help customers use IoT to succeed in a digital world.”
Vodafone’s IoT business currently manages 62 million IoT SIMs, supports services in around 200 countries and generates revenue of more than €700 million. The business is particularly successful in the automotive sector where it has topped Gartner’s list from the past four years.
