British channel first in TV Facebook tie-in says report

‘All systems go’ for Facebook and Five TV

UK terrestrial television station Five will be the first to offer content on social networking behemoth Facebook, according to New Media Age.

The reported deal will mean that 26m British Facebook users will be able to watch Five’s on-demand TV services including shows such as CSI Miami, Neighbours and the Gadget Show. If so the deal will be the first of its kind with the social networking anywhere in the world.

New Media Age, citing "sources close to the development" reported that the Five video player is in the process of being embedded into the site and that the service is set to arrive “within the next week to ten days,” they said.

The deal would be a major boon to Five given the boost in potential audience and while it would be the first major video content tie-in with a broadcaster, other channels have implemented features such as the BBC iPlayer share feature which has proven especially popular on Facebook.
