New updates cause issues across all versions of Windows

Microsoft investigating ?black screen of death?

Microsoft has confirmed that it is investigating the causes of an error that causes Windows to go in to a ‘black screen of death’ during boot-up.

According to PC World, the problem was caused by a patch released on Tuesday November 10th, and causes the PC to lock up and removes everything from the desk top leaving a black screen.

Unlike the blue screen of death, which can be the herald of severe problems within the PC, the black screen issue apparently lies with changes that the patch makes to the Access Control List and a number of registry keys.

A Microsoft statement regarding the issue read: “Microsoft is investigating reports that its latest release of security updates is resulting in system issues for some customers. Once we complete our investigation, we will provide detailed guidance on how to prevent or address these issues.”

For those who cant wait for Microsoft, the UK firm that discovered the error, Prevx, has released a fix that can be found here.
