Microsoft really can’t do things simply.
A landing page in the company’s Edge browser has all but confirmed a leak from last week that the next big update for Windows 10 will be the ‘April 2018 Update’.
Windows Latest pointed out that this page now appears in Edge when Windows 10 has been updated to preview build 17134. The page is headed with the title ‘Welcome to the April Update’
The preview build was released last week following the confirmation that the then Spring Creators Update had been delayed due to "reliability issues [that] could have led to a higher percentage of (BSOD) on PCs".
The change in name is rather odd considering that Microsoft made a big show of the fact that its Windows 10 upgrades would be themed such as was the case with the Anniversary Update, Creators Update and Fall Creators Update, though it must be admitted that a third consecutive Creators Update would have been rather unimaginative.
Also, changing the name to simply April Update eliminates a gripe of many Southern Hemisphere residents, for whom Spring is nowhere in sight.
But lastly, and perhaps most importantly, then name change confirms that we should be getting the update in the next 16 days, or else it’d be the May update. Microsoft will have to roll it out sooner rather than later, because many users will receive it in May or June and they might think it’s an out-of-date update.
Hopefully this unnecessary saga is reaching its well overdue conclusion.
