Experts say Virgin boss is Britain?s best authority on service

Richard Branson voted customer service ambassador

Richard Branson has been voted Britain’s best ambassador for customer service, in a survey by the Institute for Customer Service.

He managed to beat Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to pole position, who was closely followed by Churchill the Dog.

“They are both renowned for high service standards in their fields,” said the Institute’s CEO, Jo Causon. “Sir Richard is often prepared to take the customer’s side, while Jeff Bezos broke the mould with Amazon, by developing the blueprint for effective, personalised, online customer service.

“And our latest research of 25,000 consumers saw Churchill achieve a world class score for customer satisfaction, so perhaps Churchill the dog symbolises a company which puts good customer service at its heart.”

The poll has been run in advance of National Customer Service Week, an event in which around 1,500 UK businesses and organisations recognise and celebrate the importance of end-user service.

The week, which runs from October 5th to the 11th, will feature a treasure hunt in the Transport Museum hosted by Transport for London, a Star Wars-themed week sponsored by IT and PC specialists UKN Group and a rock ‘n’ roll day at the Virgin Media call centre.
