Intel chairman to resign

Intel’s former CEO and chairman Craig Barrett is to retire from his active management position at the company’s annual stockholders meeting in May.

The role of non-executive chair will be filled by Jane Shaw, who will be the first outsider to be appointed to the position.

Barrett has had a career of 35 years with Intel and was responsible for the overhaul of its manufacturing facilities during his time as CEO and has recently performed a more ambassadorial role for the company as well as sitting as the U.N. chair for information and communications cechnology and development.

“I want to thank Craig for his 35 years of tireless efforts on behalf of Intel,” said Intel CEO Paul Otellini.

“His legacy spans the creation of the best semiconductor manufacturing machine in the world, leading Intel for seven years as we emerged into a global powerhouse, and most recently as our industry’s senior statesman and ambassador who has advocated the benefits of education and technology as forces for positive change.”
