A report by market research firm IDG has shown that demand for digital cameras has grown twice as fast as expected as consumers rush to replace older models reversing the decline the sector had been facing.
The report also highlighted that current trends suggest that many of those who purchased cameras at the sector’s height four years ago, are now upgrading to more powerful and more expensive models such as SLRs – news that will be welcomed by the likes of Jessops who were particularly hard hit by a combination of falling demand and over expansion.
Global digital camera shipments are expected to grow by around 15 per cent according to the report, double what had been forecast.
