OpenOffice, the free open-source office software that’s attempting to rival the established paid-for packages from the likes of Microsoft, has fallen victim to a malware attack that is capable of infecting PCs, Linux users and, more surprisingly, Macs.
The Register reports that the worm, entitled BadBunny, infects machines when users open a file called badbunny.odg. Once opened, the file behaves in different ways depending on the user’s system, though mostly it works to both replicate itself and block access to anti-virus websites.
The group behind the worm, d00mriderz, has released several similar pieces of malware in the past, but this is the first time a cross-platform worm has been created.
