Nvidia has unveiled "the world’s fastest GPU" in the form of the GeForce 8800 Ultra, claiming it takes the performance crown from its own 8800 GTX.
The 8800 Ultra is the latest in Nvidia’s family of DirectX 10 GPUs and comes just in advance of the long awaited launch of ATI’s DirectX 10 family. Intriguingly, Nvidia makes a major point in its launch release of plugging Intel processors as the best companion for the GPUs.
8800 cards will come with 768MB of video memory and cost somewhere in the region of £500. Nvidia’s full range of board partners, including BFG, Asus and XFX, will be producing cards, which are expected to be available from May 15th.
