Lee Young Hee confirms that Samsung has been preparing a watch product for a long time

Samsung VP reveals company will take on iWatch with own ‘smart watch’

Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business, has confirmed that a ‘smart watch’ has been in development for some time.

Lee revealed the news to Bloomberg in a recent interview, saying: “We’ve been preparing the watch product for so long. We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.”

Samsung mobile’s VP was keeping tightlipped about any specific features, prices or release dates, but there’s been some rumours and mockups floating around the internet suggesting that Samsung’s ‘smart watch’ would be named the Galaxy Altius.

Last month PCR reported that a new patent filed by Apple shows off a device strongly mirroring the firm’s highly rumoured iWatch. With Apple and Samsung battling it out in the smartphone arena, it would be no surprise to see these two tech watches come to market around the same time.
