BT revealed the front runners in the telco giant’s fibre broadband vote scheme with towns in Cambridgeshire and Worcestershire in the lead.
The ‘race to infinity’ campaign has so far received more than 200,000 votes as people in broadband challenged towns registered their interested in obtaining fibre-based broadband with five winning towns being upgraded to fibre broadband by early 2012.
Caxton in Cambridgeshire and Malvern in Worcestershire are the first communities to have registered more than 1000 votes and at this stage are leading the race.
“This is fantastic news for Caxton and Cambridgeshire as a whole. Communities across the East of England have really been demonstrating demand for fibre broadband,” said BT East England regional director Peter McCarthy-Ward.
“I hope news that these communities who have already registered 1000 votes will spur people into action as this data will help BT determine where fibre broadband will be deployed in the coming years.”
