The inaugural Business Champion Awards has just launched, recognising the very best in British business, taking place with a glittering awards ceremony hosted by presenter Huw Edwards in London on 23 March 2022.
Phil Jones, MD of Greater Manchester-based IT giant Brother UK is onboard along with a notable panel of judges that includes a range of UK business leaders including Steve Holliday, ex CEO National Grid; Jackson Parsons, CEO the Youth Group & the UK’S Chief Youth Officer; Alex Robson, CEO of West End Drinks; Dean Forbes, CEO of Forterro, Charlie Mullins OBE, CEO of Pimlico Plumbers, and Rune Sovendahl, co-founder Fantastic Services.com
This event has been shaped based on new research that reveals over 60% of SMEs find an awards win to be a positive driver for growth – but often cost and time investment made it restrictive for smaller businesses to enter.
Given these findings, the Awards are adopting a digital-first approach with all judging taking place over video call to minimise cost and time investment. The Awards will also be carbon neutral and allow businesses to focus on running their business by streamlining the process.
Phil Jones, MBE, MD of Brother UK, said: “Wherever you are in the country there are success stories coming out against the most challenging of circumstances.
“In the North West, where I’m based, the digital, life-sciences and creative sectors continue to thrive alongside the long established manufacturing success. However, there are always a myriad of challenges old and new to making a business a success and I salute those who’ve managed to make a real success of their business in the last two years.
“I speak on behalf of all the judges when we ask all businesses across the country to get involved and tell us their stories. Personally, I can’t wait to meet those shortlisted in January.’”
There are twelve categories ranging from rewarding champions of innovation; sustainability; diversity; as well as individual awards for SME of the Year and Entrepreneur and Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Full categories are here.
Entrants are being encouraged from all corners of the UK, particularly with an eye on success stories who might have overcome the significant challenges of new EU legislation. The deadline for entries 15th December 2021.
Richard Alvin, CEO, Business Champion Awards, added: ‘In an unprecedented time for businesses, up and down the country, we’ve seen an incredible amount of resilience.
“We are a nation of proud business owners and the last 18 months has proved more than ever that whatever is thrown at British business we can respond. I’m delighted to bring on board such a brilliant judging panel and we are already excited about seeing the breadth and depth of quality businesses that enter the awards.
