CMS Distribution celebrates 30 years of innovation

Set up in 1988 by CEO and founder Frank Salmon, CMS Distribution is a company well-known for taking emerging technologies to market as well as growing established brands.

Now, with more than 30 years in business, the distributor has outlined just how innovative its work in the channel has been in its new Connecting Technology to Customers guide.

“We started as a small system integrator with a big idea which allowed people to transfer data from their desktop PCs 51⁄4-inch floppy disk to the new portable laptops with 31⁄2-inch floppy disk drive,” said Salmon about the start of the company in 1988.

“Our solution was called the Megalink. Following Toshiba’s approval, they started introducing us to their resellers. That was how we began making connections between vendors, resellers and end users.”

Today, CMS has 12 sites across London, Harrogate, Castleford, Dublin, Kiltimagh, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Madrid, Paris, Shenzhen, Colorado and Sydney. It has 100 vendors of enterprise software, hardware and consumer technologies, and 18 warehouses and distribution hubs worldwide. So, it’s no surprise that the company took home a PCR Award for the third year in a row at last week’s show.

You can delve deeper into CMS Distribution’s many milestones over the past 30 years, as well as its charity work, community projects and financial achievements, in the new CMS Distribution Connecting Technology to Customers guide.
