As the old adage goes: it’s better late than never. A stonking five months after its release Stateside, Microsoft’s Surface Book with Performance Base is finally going on sale in the UK. Why exactly it has taken so long to cross the pond is anyone’s guess… but the wait is almost over.
Billed as the most powerful Surface yet, the Book with Performance Base uses an Intel Core i7 processor, has an Nvidia GeForce GTX 95M with 2GB of GDDR5 memory and has enough battery to last for a whopping 16 hours without charge.
A detachable 13.5-inch touchscreen allows for the 2-in-1 to be used as a tablet or laptop. The standard model packs 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD while the duped up version has double the RAM (16GB) and a 512 GB SSD. Also launching in Austria, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland in the coming weeks, the Surface Book will be on sale for £2,249 (for the standard version) or £2,699 (for the bumped up spec) as of April 20.
In other Microsoft-related news, it has been revealed that the tech giant had a patent approved for a foldable device in January. The announcement has sparked rumours that Microsoft is winning the race with Apple and Google to bring out the world’s first-ever foldable smartphone. LG has already confirmed it is working with all three vendors and has the technology in place to support such a device.
Rumours have also been circulating over the prospect of a Surface Book 2 launching at some point before the end of the year. Some corners are even suggesting that the foldable patent will be deployed in the tablet rather than in a phone. Only time will tell.
