How to watch Samsung’s Galaxy S8 event and what to expect

Suffice to say that Samsung didn’t have the best of times in 2017, with market share, financial results and public reputation all taking a nosedive as a result of the Galaxy Note 7 recall disaster. However, the company will hope that today can mark a change in its fortunes as it launches its latest flagship phone – the Galaxy S8.

The S8 is set to be revealed at its Unpacked event in New York today. Thankfully for those of us who didn’t get an invite out to NYC Samsung is hosting a livestream which you can watch here at 4pm BST.

So what can we expect out of the device?

Well, the most touted feature of the phone is Samsung’s new smart assistant which it has been discovered is called Bixby. It’s expected that Bixby will function in a similar way to Apple’s Siri or Google’s Assistant AI, but it will have to do a lot in order to convince users to use it instead of the Google Assistant that is already built into Android.

Other expected features are a bezel-less screen, an iris scanner and a desktop dock.

Whether we’ll get all of that remains to be seen, but we will find out what Samsung has in store for us this afternoon.
