Sales of cloud solutions expected to generate $11 billion every 90 days this year

Cloud solutions have continued to grow and will generate $11 billion in sales every 90 days, according to research from IDC. Spend on public and private cloud solutions increased by 34.7 per cent during the third quarter of 2016, with private cloud products coming out on top and accounting for $3.3 billion in sales revenue during that period. In contrast, sales of on-premise servers did not do very well and fell by 12.9 per cent, as did uptake of non-cloud solutions during the third quarter.

With some service providers opting to build their own cloud services, sales of cloud hardware will increase by 18.2 per cent and result in $44.2 billion in sales. IDC’s data also suggests that building more data centres will contribute towards an increase in cloud spend.

Dell and HPE have maintained their market lead closely followed by Lenovo despite the $250 million the vendor had previously made after acquiring IBM’s server unit. IDC also identifies Ethernet switches as being responsible for the rapid adoption of on-premise cloud solutions. These solutions will drive 57.1 per cent of consumer spend as well.
