Amazon Web Services (AWS), the company’s cloud solution division, has partnered with the Prince’s Trust, along with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) to deliver cloud training and job opportunities under its new AWS re:Start programme which officially launched today at an event in Central London. The MOD’s ‘Career Transition partnership’ and the Prince’s Trust ‘Get Into Technology’ programmes are both a part of the re:Start scheme, which aims to help 1,000 individuals in the UK. The MOD and the Prince’s Trust will select young people and ex-military candidates to take part in these training courses and apprenticeships.
“I am incredibly delighted Amazon Web Services are starting this initiative. There’s no beating around the bush. Given the level of change and the pace of change, we do not have enough people for the future, “ Karen Bradley, secretary of state for culture, media and sport said.
“We do need to see this an as opportunity, and this is the opportunity for people from across the country, from all walks of life, to retrain so that they can be part of a series of professions that have excellent career prospects.”
AWS also used their event today to discuss its UK Region Launch, having recently opened its data center in Britain. According to a report published by House of Commons Science and Technology Committee, the UK will require 745,000 additional workers that have digital skills in order to meet the requirements of employers, between 2013 and 2017. During these time periods, almost 90 per cent of new jobs will call for digital skills.
