VIP offers gaming packs worth £2,500 for indie PC stores

Distributor VIP Computers is offering indie PC retailers a helping hand this Christmas with its new sale or return gaming packs.

The first packs, which include a variety of goods from VIP’s key PC gaming vendors (including Razer), as well as marketing assets, will be sent out next week.

The packs have an overall trade price value of £2,500 and are being sent out on a sale or return (SOR) basis. They are exclusive to members of VIP Club – the distie’s programme for independent bricks and mortar PC retailers.

Each pack includes several skus from a variety of vendors, including five Razer Blackwidow Chroma gaming keyboards, as well as Razer Deathadder and Naga mice, and more.

"By sending the customer a gaming pack on SOR which they have for peak, this enables them to have the latest high end peripherals in stock with no commitment from them," VIP Computers director Rich Marsden told PCR.

"One of indies’ biggest challenges is stock cost – they’ve got to fill a store, but they don’t want to fill it with products that are high-ticket items or ones they don’t think will sell.

"The idea behind our gaming pack is that when retailers are deciding what to stock this Christmas, it enables them to range the product without any hassle, cost or risk. If at the end of the process they’ve not sold it, they can return it. They can send it all, a mix or some of it back to us.

"We want to take the hassle away from indie customers."

Indies don’t need to pay the invoice until January 2016, at which point they can pay the invoice or return the goods – whatever they haven’t sold can sent back to VIP.

Marsden says that in two days, more than 100 resellers have signed up to receive a pack.

"The response we’ve had has been overwhelming positive," he added. "It’s a great way for indies to stock the latest and greatest gaming technology.

"In gaming, people are interested in the best products, not the cheapest. Having the confidence to take a £99 keyboard into stock, risk-free, gives them the confidence to replenish stock in the future."
