Apple has unveiled its latest iterations of both its mobile and desktop operating systems.
El Capitan
OS X El Capitan (OS X 10.11) features a number of experience improvements to the Mac OS series, including improved Spotlight search through natural language, rather than just keywords and terms.
As demonstrated during the keynote at the firm’s WWDC 2015, Apple’s Craig Federighi gave some examples of how this could be used on work machines. So if you know you saved a document sometime in June, you can now check in Finder for “documents I last worked on in June”.
Apple as also focussed on improving its multitask features and appears to have taken a bit of inspiration from the likes of Windows 7 onwards as it now features the ability to ‘snap’ app windows side by side. As well as this, El Capitan now supports floating windows. These two functions, coupled with the fact you can now flick apps up into your Spaces bar, then down to snap into place when needed, makes for a much more productive working space.
As well as helping you to get through the daily slog of emails, documents and cat videos, the new OS should help employees work faster and even for longer. Apps now launch 1.4 times faster and switch twice as fast, PDFs load four times faster in Preview, and battery life is improved for editing videos.
iOS 9
The big benefit for businesses when it coms to the new mobile operating system is the fact that it will be more compatible with older iPad and iPhone devices, giving you a bit more time with a fleet of business devices before having to renew them, while still being able to keep up to date with the latest features and security implementations that Apple has to offer.

Other improvements include smarter Siri, which can now scan the app that you’ve got open, enabling you to ask Siri to make a note of something in particular on the open window.
iOS 9 can also now try to make sense of unsaved numbers that call you, so when one comes up, it dives in to your email to see if it can match it up with any correspondents.
On iPad, iOS 9 users can also snap apps and split screens like in El Captian.
iOS 9 is available now to those enrolled in the iOS developer program and may be available to everyone else around September of this year.
OS X El Capitan is available now for developers and is set for a public beta in July, with a general release in the autumn.
