Blizzcon news roundup: Warcraft movie and new shooter Overwatch detailed

Blizzard Entertainment, developer of PC games including World of Warcraft and Diablo III, has held its annual Blizzcon event in the US – here’s all the news from the show.

The event drew some 25,000 fans and took place from Friday November 8th running into the weekend.

Overwatch revealed

Blizzard showed off a brand new game at Blizzcon – a team-based first-person shooter with cartoon-like visuals called Overwatch. 

The game features a variety of different heroes each with their own powers, and four classes: Offense, Defence, Tank and Support. The beta will launch in 2015.

Warcraft movie cast list

The Warcraft movie will hit cinemas on March 11th 2016 directed by Sam Raimi, and a trailer was shown off to Blizzcon visitors.

Some of the actors were revealed at the show, reports IGN, including Travis Fimmel as Lothar on the Alliance side, Toby Kebbell as Durotan (Horde) and Ben Foster as Alliance mage Medivh. Rob Kazinsky will play Durotan’s assistant Orgrim.

King Llane of the Alliance will be played by Dominic Cooper, Gul’Dan of the Horde will be played by Daniel Wu and Blackhand the Destroyer will be played by Clancy Brown.

Khadgar of the Alliance will be played by Ben Schnetzer, while Garona will be played by Paula Patton. 

Heroes of the Storm beta

Blizzard announced its League of Legends and Dota 2 rival, Heroes of the Storm, will enter its beta in January 2015, allowing gamers to play the title ahead of its full launch.

The PC MOBA title will also feature retro gaming characters The Lost Vikings as playable characters.

StarCraft II expansion

Another expansion for Blizzard’s popular PC strategy game StarCraft II is due to launch.

A release date was not set for the title but players can sign up to the game’s beta. It’s the third expansion for StarCraft II following Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm. 

Hearthstone expansion 

Blizzard also confirmed an expansion to its free-to-play PC and iPad card battle game Hearthstone: Goblins vs Gnomes.

The expansion will feature 120 new cards and is set to launch in December.
