The Galaxy Note 4 phablet is said to retail for $799, which will power the headset

‘Samsung Gear VR to cost $199’

Samsung’s Gear VR virtual reality headset will cost $199, according to reports.

However, VentureBeat claims this price does not include the cost of the Galaxy Note 4 phablet, which connects to the headset to help power the device, and is rumoured to retail for around $799.

A Samsung spokesperson is said to have revealed the price to Fashion Week attendees at the company’s Lincoln Center booth in Manhattan.

The Gear VR was first unveiled at the 2014 IFA trade show, which has been made in partnership with Oculus VR, the maker of the Oculus rift.

The Note 4 features a 5.7-inch display and the unit can provide users with a 3D effect display thanks to the dual-lenses.

This news comes after the Gear S smartwatch was also recently revealed, the latest smartwatch model from the firm, which features 3G connectivity and Samsung’s Tizen operating system.
