Valve has delivered the first 300 prototype Steam Machines to lucky beta applicants, and some are taking a look inside the system.
Among the varying hardware that can be found inside the custom-moulded case are Nvidia’s GeForce GTX Titan, 780, 760 and 660 graphics cards and Intel’s Core i7-4770, i5-4570 and i3 processors.
All of the prototype machines include 16GB of DDR3-1600 RAM, a 1TB primary hard drive and 8GB solid-state drive cache hybrid drive and are powered by a 450W power supply.
As the video below, posted by Corey Nelson, shows, the custom-made case is packed tightly, almost resembling the compact games consoles many have seen it as a competitor to.
Components are kept cool via dedicated vents and heat shields, and can be swapped out easily by opening the case, which is held together with a single screw, and undoing the thumbscrews holding each component in.
Nelson’s particular machine included an Nvidia GeForce GTX 780, an ASRock motherboard and a Seagate laptop hard drive.
All of the machines also come with a prototype model of the Steam Controller, which can be seen in the top left of Nelson’s video, and run on Valve’s Linux-based SteamOS operating system, which was released for free on Friday December 13th.
