Online retailer trials service in London and across the US

Amazon trials Sunday deliveries, expands Web Services partner program

Amazon has begun delivering orders on Sundays in London and certain parts of the US.

Amazon UK has opened seven 50,000 sq ft fulfilment centres around Birmingham, Oxford, Milton Keynes and in areas around London, reports Telegraph. Plus, it’s teaming up with firms such as City Sprint and Transline to deliver on Sundays.

Four more mini centres will be opened in 2014 in the North West, South West, the Midlands and Yorkshire.

In the US, Amazon Prime customers ordering from the online retail giant can receive packages on Sunday if they live in Los Angeles or New York.

Amazon and the US postal service planning to roll out the service to a larger part of the US in 2014, including Dallas, Houston, New Orleans and Phoenix, to name a few.

“If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can order a backpack for your child on Friday and be packing it for them Sunday night,” said Dave Clark, Amazon’s vice president of worldwide operations and customer service.

“We’re excited that now every day is an Amazon delivery day and we know our Prime members, who voraciously shop on Amazon, will love the additional convenience they will experience as part of this new service.”

The news comes as Amazon Web Services expands its partner program. It has announced 22 2014 Premier Consulting Partners and revealed that the AWS Marketplace now features more than 1,100 different software products pre-configured for the AWS Cloud.

The AWS Partner Network has grown to more than 8,000 technology and consulting partners worldwide. Since the beginning of the year, the number of products available in the AWS Marketplace has increased 71 per cent.

“The growth of the AWS Partner Network and AWS Marketplace continues to accelerate as customers actively seek partners with the products and expertise to help them take advantage of the AWS cloud,” said Terry Wise, Director, Worldwide Partner Ecosystem, AWS.
