Samsung’s tablet being developed in house; Apple working on project with iWatch supplier

Apple and Samsung planning to release 12-inch tablets

Apple and Samsung are both said to be planning to release 12-inch tablets, reports DigiTimes.

Earlier this year, rumours circulated that Apple was looking into releasing an iPad with a 12.9-inch screen, with some dubbing it the ‘iPad Maxi’.

The first rumours about Samsung joining in surfaced in August 2013, when DigiTimes reported that sources from the upstream supply chain claimed the two vendors were attempting to create a new market segment.

The new report sheds a little more light on the 12-inch+ tablets, with more sources revealing Apple is working on the project with Quanta Computer – a firm that the they say has also become a supplier of Apple’s iWatch.

Allegedly, Samsung originally hoped to partner with Google for its own 12-inch tablet offering, but is now developing the product in house.

Apple is rumoured to announce its new iPad line on October 22nd. The firm is expected to unveil the iPad 5 and the iPad Mini 2, but could the iPad Maxi also be unveiled? We’ll have to wait and see…
