In the never-ending patent war between Apple and Samsung, the latter has claimed a surprising win following a ruling in the US.
The United States International Trade Commission found that a host of Apple’s iPhone and iPad products did infringe on a number of Samsung’s registered transmission patents.
As a result of the ruling, the ITC has issued a ban on the sale of these products, which includes the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 3G and iPad 2 3G, which are sold by US telecoms network AT&T.
However, Apple retains the opportunity to keep its dated products on sale within the US, as the case is submitted to president Barack Obama, who will review the case across a 60 day period.
If unsatisfied with the ruling, Obama will have the right to overturn the decision, which would see Apple’s devices remain on sale once again.
AllThingsD reports that Apple is already planning to appeal the ruling.
Whilst the decision only affects Apples’ now outdated products, the devices still generate a healthy income for Apple in the budget market as the iPhone 4 in particular carries a price tag of around $400 direct from the firm itself.
