Amazon brings Kindle Fire HD and HD 8.9 to 170 countries

Amazon has announced that it will now sell the two higher-end versions of its Kindle device in 170 countries, with pre-orders beginning today.

The 7- and 8.9-inch tablets have been available in the US, Japan, UK and other selected countries in Europe for some time, but will now be available worldwide from June 13th.

As well as expanding its Kindle offering, Amazon is making its Appstore available in nearly 200 countries.

“We are thrilled to be expanding the reach of our global app distribution to nearly 200 countries,” said Mike George, VP of Apps and Games at Amazon, in a statement. “By further expanding the distribution of apps to millions of customers around the world, we are continuing to make it easy for customers to enjoy their Amazon apps on Kindle Fire and any Android device.”

The tablets are available for pre-order from Amazon.com and will start shipping on June 13th.
