Tech show offers up some of the latest gear for consumers to get their hands on

Gadget Show Live showcases latest tech

This year’s Gadget Show Live has opened its doors to consumers, offering a look at much of the year’s upcoming tech for the first time in the UK.

From "table PCs" to jetpacks, tech lovers have flocked to the NEC, Birmingham to take a look at all the tech on offer at one of the UK’s leading technology shows.

Similarly to previous years, those in attendance were treated to a wide variety of the latest technology and gadgetry and some of the market’s biggest names showcased their high-tech wares.

A growing trend noticeable from this year’s event was the growing popularity of tablet PCs and hybrid laptops over traditional desktops and notebooks.

Microsoft was on hand to showcase its touch-focused operating system Windows 8, in addition to its own Surface tablet devices.

Meanwhile, Lenovo brought along its IdeaCentre Horizon – the world’s first "table" PC, which packs a ten-touch, 27-inch touchscreen display.

The device can be used simultaneously by several people and is encouraged for a whole host of uses, ranging from family-orientated gaming, to educational apps for both work and play.

Another staple attraction of the Gadget Show Live – The Game Zone – returned at this year’s event, as many of the industry’s biggest publishers were on hand to showcase their latest titles.

Big name gaming brands Turtle Beach and Mad Catz offered up the latest gear designed for gamers, whilst retailer GAME also returned to the event to show off its wide games offering.

Acer even brought along a Crystal Maze-esque challenge, which provided those in attendance with the opportunity to win a host of prizes, ranging from sky diving trips to some of the brand’s latest tablet and notebook devices.

Held at the NEC, Birmingham, this year’s Gadget Show Live takes place from the 3rd – 7th April.
