It is expected that Polaroid, the company that brought us instant pictures in 1948, will announce the new IM1836 Android camera at the Las Vegas tech show.
Imaging Resources has reported that Scott Hardy, president and CEO of Polaroid has confirmed the launch in an email statement, which reads: "There will be an Android powered, interchangeable lens camera introduced by Polaroid at CES 2013. Additional information and specs will be released during the show."
This statement confirms rumours that the IM1836 will have interchangeable lenses. Reports suggest that the camera will have an 18.1 million pixel sensor, a pop-up flash, built in WiFi, 3.5-inch touchscreen and HDMI output.
Having an Android powered camera offers the ability to download photography apps as well as social networking apps such as Facebook and Twitter. It could also open up the door to customising menus and interface features.
At CES 2012, Polaroid unveiled a 16MP, HD-capable Android camera, but it has yet to actually go on sale. It seems odd to announce a new Android camera when the last one sold zero, but I guess all will be revealed next week at CES 2013.
