The Acer Iconia A510 ‘Olympic Edition’ tablet has gone on sale in the US for US$450 but so far there’s no sign of the Android tablet in the UK channel.
The Iconia Tab A510 is Acer’s latest 10.1-inch tablet armed with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and a beefy quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor. With Acer being an Olympic sponsor (presumably of notebooks and PCs while Samsung is the smartphone sponsor) the A510 will also carry London 2012 Olympic games branding – which is a bit weird.
Thankfully the branding amounts to an Olympic logo next to the Acer logo on the back and that’s about it from what we can tell.
Stranger still, the device has gone on sale from the Acer store in the US but so far is missing in action this side of the pond – despite London hosting the games later this year.
The mid-range tablet is a fraction thicker and heavier than high-end rivals and also offers a lower resolution 720×1280 display than the upcoming high-end Iconia 700 with an almost-iPad resolution screen of 1200 x 1925 pixels.
The A510 is selling for US$450 Stateside while it’s set to go on sale at £370 here. Officially it’s due to arrive some time in April so presumably it’s not long now.
Whether it’s really in with a shot against the £20 pricier third-generation iPad is another matter.
