Schools, businesses and free Apps users rejoice

Google+ arrives for Google Apps users

Google has moved to finally launch the firm’s Google+ social networking platform on the Google Apps enterprise platform.

While Google+ has been available on personal Google accounts since the service went live, those that use Google services via Google Apps for your Domain or via enterprise and educational accounts have been forced to set up a completely separate profile.

The service needs to be manually switched on by administrators, no doubt addressing concern from IT managers of Google Apps for businesses and educational organisations that an unwanted bandwidth sapping service would be foisted on them without choice.

The Google Apps version of Google+ will operate in the same way but it’s possible to post to everyone within an organisation in addition to the usual public and circle-based controls.
