Samsung Galaxy S II hits the UK

The latest Samsung high-end Android smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S II, has appeared early in the UK exclusively through the Phones 4u chain.

The Galaxy S II is a follow-up to the Korean manufacturer’s successful Galaxy S which itself sold over 10 million worldwide. The new model has a even larger 4.3-inch screen based on Samsung’s own Super AMOLED Plus technology and a new 1.2GHz dual-core processor.

It’s a big phone by any standards but we’d suggest Samsung’s trademark press photos with attractive Korean ladies, brandishing the phone in their dainty little hands, makes it look positively massive.

While the ladies are not included the firm’s new Android flagship is the first smartphone to arrive with a so-called MHL port which combines USB and audio/video out in the same micro-USB port for factor.

The Android 2.3-based Galaxy S II also features a higher resolution 8 megapixel rear camera and an updated TouchWiz 4.0 UI which hopefully is less horrible than earlier versions.

Plugging in a special cable will give access to HDMI out to plug the Galaxy S II into a large screen TV where the device can send full 1080p high-definition video.

The Samsung Galaxy S II is be available from Phones 4u stores and the firm’s website, free on a £35 a month mobile contract or £499 up front on a pay-as-you-go deal.
