Search engine keeps up with rivals by adding new feature

Yahoo adds tweets to results

Yahoo has followed in the footsteps of Google and Bing by incorporating tweets into its search results.

A shortcut to Twitter content was introduced to Yahoo News earlier in the month, and now the 140-character messages will be integrated into search results. Tweets about less popular subjects will appear at the bottom, and less frequently than those about hot topics.

“By presenting the latest Twitter discussions about buzzing topics, we are bringing you a wider variety of voices on the Web. We are constantly trying to improve search to bring you better results,” Yahoo’s Ivan Davtchev and Shiv Ramamurthi wrote in the company’s official blog.

Yahoo added that the age of the tweets will vary – some could be up to several hours old.
