Retailer claims to sell an iPod dock every 20 seconds

Tech boosts John Lewis? sales by 20 per cent

John Lewis has reported that its sales are 20 per cent higher for the four days from Sunday November 22nd to Wednesday November 25th than for the same period last year, due to a boost in tech and ‘homeware’ sales in the run up to Christmas.

The retailer claims it is selling a Gear4 Street Party iPod dock every 20 seconds, while sales of digital photo frames are up by 81 per cent, compact cameras are up by 20 per cent and camcorders sales grew by 30 per cent compared to the previous week ending on November 21st.

“For Sunday to Wednesday this week we are trading over 20 per cent up on last year which, if sustained through the weekend, will represent the strongest year-on-year comparison we have seen in 2009,” commented John Lewis’ director of operational development, Andrew Murphy.

“These figures reflect some really heavy customer spending on technology products and home ranges over the last four days, as gift buying moves into top gear and preparing the home for a traditional family Christmas becomes a priority.”
