PCR POLL: Let us know your thoughts on the impact of this booming category

Are netbooks helping the channel?

It wasn’t so long ago that computers and associated technology products were the sole preserve of specialist chains like Dixons and independent retailers. These days, it seems every man and his dog is getting in on the action, with Tesco, John Lewis and even mobile phone retailers significantly stepping up their IT ranges.

Much of this is down to the availability of netbooks – the low spec, generally under £300 machines which have exploded in popularity over the last year. While some claim this has widened the market, providing more opportunities for the channel, others claim the flooding of these low-margin units have made the average independents store owner’s life much harder.

We’d like to know your thoughts. Do you think the mass adoption of netbooks has given a boost to the channel? To take part in our online poll, click here and scroll down to the voting section near the bottom of the page
