Dell has launched a petition against Psion, over its claims that the use of ‘netbook’ to describe the new format of portable computers is a violation of the Canadian firm’s trademark.
The world’s second largest vendor said that Psion’s claim to the term was flawed, as the last product to use the trademark was released in 2003 and it has since become a generic term for the format.
It backed up that assertion, adding that Psion had fraudulently claimed use of the trademark for five consecutive years from November 21st 2000 – thus invalidating the registration also.
