Outlines a vision of future applications and uses

AT&T has big plans for the iPhone

AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega has set down a framework listing the potential for the iPhone in the future.

Applications include remote activation of household equipment, locking doors, vocal news reports, starting a car and automatic real time translation services.

The comments were made at the Web 2.0 summit in San Francisco, where AT&T also announced ongoing moves to integrate the handset with U-Verse, a suite of VoIP and IPTV services that the company has been developing that allows users to transfer iPhone content to the television and vice versa.

“We’re looking at the whole landscape, of what people use, and what’s out there in the home,” said AT&T Chief Technology Officer John Donovan.
