Acer closes Gateway acquisition

The acquisition by Acer of Gateway has been completed, meaning that the worlds third biggest PC manufacturer is now a little larger.

The vendor announced during August that a deal had been agreed, yet already it has its sights on another rival manufacturer, Packard Bell. Gateway confirmed recently that it plans to impose its first right of refusal for an acquisition bid of the vendor by rival Lenovo.

"Multi branding is the future," said Acer president, Gianfranco Lanci. "Our channel strategy will be very different from our competitors. We will use the Gateway and Packard Bell brands to meet different user needs."

"Based on the latest August data from [market-watcher] GFK, Acer, Gateway and Packard Bell have a combined market share of 37 per cent," Said Sarah Shields, European sales manager at Gateway.
