Apple files patent for nano influenced phone

Cut price iPhone may emerge

A report from a JP Morgan analyst has suggested that Apple may be planning to make an iPhone ‘light’, possibly using the iPod nano as a template, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

Taiwan based Kevin Chang claims "Apple filed a patent application document dated July 5 that refers to a multifunctional handheld device with a circular touch pad control, similar to the Nano’s scroll wheel," said the SMH.

There has been widespread speculation that a £300+ price tag in the UK will scare off all but the most devoted Apple fan-boys, used as we are to getting our phones for ‘free’ with our contracts. A cheaper version may be a good way of crossing the divide.
