Intel has unveiled its Series 3 chipset, formally codenamed Bearlake, at the Computex computer trade show.
The chipsets were officially announced during a keynote speech at the show.
“There is a tremendous amount of excitement and anticipation for our forthcoming 45nm Hi-K processors based on the Intel Core micro-architecture,” claimed Intel executive vice president Sean Maloney. “The Intel 3 Series chipsets lay the foundation for an exciting, media-rich experience for today’s systems and those that arrive later this year.”
The chipsets support PCI Express 2.0, Intel’s Turbo Memory and DDR2 up to 800MHz.
The G33 and G35 Express Chipsets provide integrated graphics, support HDMI and include Intel’s Clear Video Technology. Meanwhile Intel claims that system builders will be able to support HD DVD and Blu-ray disc playback with the chipsets at a lower cost than most discrete graphics cards, reported PC Pro.
Also at the keynote, Maloney and Asustek CEO Johnny Shih announced a jointly designed notebooks for emerging markets which will cost under $200 and will run either Linux or Microsoft Windows.
"It’s a simpler product than the Classmate," Maloney said, comparing it to Intel’s current offering, reported ZDNet.
