Intel processor marketing confuses consumers, report claims

Chip branding criticised by In-Stat

A report by analytical firm In-Stat has said that the brand names employed by the likes of Intel for their CPU ranges have failed to capture the interest of consumers.

The Inquirer reports that similarities in brand names such as Core 2 Quad and GeForce Quadro has lead to a lack of product differentiation in the market. The findings will come as a blow to Intel, which has spent millions trying to push its new ranges.

Intel’s Centrino brand is the only one credited with success by the report, which claims that similar names such as Celeron and Viiv have failed to achieve brand success.

AMD, which was credited as being more successful with its brand strategy, will soon be launching its new Phenom range as a successor to its current Athlon CPU processor.
